Torrent

To create a new brand identity for themselves, the esports organization Alpine rebranded to Torrent, a cyberpunk-inspired organization. I created and animated a plethora of assets to fill out their brand—this began with a logo animation to get a feel for the brand in motion. After getting a feel for how this brand moved, I dove headfirst into the supporting motion. This included broadcast, YouTube, and streaming animations. This process involved a lot of collaboration between artists and streamers alike and required a great deal of cohesion to strengthen this new brand’s presence online.

Animation: Chris Anema

Branding: Sam Gerstner, Samm Langer

To start my process, I began by learning how the brand moved. I took the Torrent icon and created a logo animation from it to get an initial feel for how the brand would feel in motion. I wanted it to feel mechanical and slick.

After locking down the Torrent icon animation, I dressed it up and added the grungy theming in the bumper.

To reveal this new brand, Torrent hosted a mysterious livestream even to unveil their new look. The broadcast started off with a 1 hour count down with no information on what was to be unveiled. To build this anticipation, I slowly revealed elements to build an idea of the brand, one piece at a time. New elements were added every 10 minutes. Below is a consolidated look at what I crafted.

Video Content

Torrent continually released new merchandise lines during it lifespan. I created several themed ads for these collections. Below are ads for the Corruptor Collection, Enter the Flood Collection, and the Head in the Clouds Collection

For the Head in the Clouds collection, I worked with 3D artist Jimmy Edward to create several ads for social media.
