teamfight tactics: set 7

In a collaboration between Wisdom Gaming and Riot Games, Wisdom produced a series of competitions for Set 7 of “Teamfight Tactics: Dragonlands”. I created the background animations, stinger transitions, top-of-show bumper, and supporting video content for the set.

Branding/Overlay Design: Riot Games, Samm Langer

Dragonlands Bumper

For the top of show, I created a substantial bumper using key art provided by Riot Games. I was able to craft a short narrative that leaned heavily into the Set 7 branding. I wanted this piece to feel like a journey through this huge scene, so I used a small magical whisp to act as the viewer’s guide. I was able to enhance the bumper through the use of sound design and music editing (music provided by Riot Games).

To transition between scenes during broadcast, I created a templated stinger based off the Set 7 branding. Each show had a different color scheme so the hexes featured prominently in the stinger had to be easily swapped out per show.

Stinger

While each set was expected to have a bumper, stinger, and several backgrounds, video content varied a bit from set to set. Due to this, I had to be prepared to create a plethora of video intros, outro, or explainer videos to support the content produced by our editors.

For each show Wisdom produced, I created a seamlessly looping background to keep viewers engaged between matches. Each background had to fit the show’s theming, as well as the overall set branding. Additionally, these backgrounds couldn’t interfere with the information that would be put on screen. Each background was a chance to experiment with environmental design and simulation to create something engaging and unique.
